Dr. Tim Benson

Sports and Addiction Psychiatrist

Dr. Timothy G. Benson is a Harvard-trained psychiatrist double-boarded in psychiatry and addiction medicine. He is also the author of the book Surviving Success.  Dr. Benson completed his medical degree at the University of Rochester School of Medicine and his adult psychiatry residency at Harvard Medical School’s Massachusetts General Hospital/McLean Hospital. He also served as medical director of the McLean Center at Fernside, a nationally acclaimed residential addiction facility. As a sports and addiction psychiatrist, Dr. Benson has served as a consultant to both the NBA and the NFL. In addition to his clinical work, Dr. Benson is passionate about giving back. He speaks nationally to high schools, colleges, and athletic teams on the topics of “Succeeding Against the Odds” and “Surviving Success: Performing under the Pressures of High Expectations.”

Dr. Benson practices in the Los Angeles metropolitan area. Providing both psychotherapy and medication management, he treats depression, anxiety, addiction, and a range of other mental health conditions.
