Dr. Otis Anderson III

Child, Adolescent, and Adult Psychiatrist

Dr. Otis Anderson III is a community psychiatrist practicing in the state of Mississippi. He is currently the sole psychiatrist at First Counseling in Southaven. He is a former correctional psychiatrist for the state prison system in Mississippi. He is a rural mental health champion as one of six outpatient Medicaid providers for children in the whole state of Mississippi. He also serves as the medical director for the chemical dependency unit at Tri-Lakes Hospital in Batesville and does some psychiatric consulting for various senior care units in northern Mississippi. He is a former Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration fellow for the American Psychological Association (APA) and also held a position on the APA’s board of representatives in 2008–2009. He served as the member-in-training representative to the Black Psychiatrists of America’s board of trustees from 2008 to 2010. He is currently active in his Memphis community and serves on the board of directors for Memphis Challenge, an organization founded by AutoZone to promote education and leadership development in Memphis’s “talented tenth” youth.  Dr. Anderson believes that “no matter what your age, from four to one hundred four, and no matter where your judgment takes you, from your city or town to substance abuse recovery and incarceration and back into the community, Dr. Anderson will come see ya! Mental health matters to me!”
