Dr. Karriem Salaam
Child, Adolescent and Adult Psychiatrist
Dr. Karriem L. Salaam is a board certified adult, child, and adolescent psychiatrist in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He is the medical director of the adolescent unit of Friends Hospital, which is the oldest private psychiatric hospital in continuous existence in the United States. He is a clinical assistant professor of psychiatry at Drexel University College of Medicine. Dr. Salaam earned his medical degree from Robert Wood Johnson Medical School. He completed his residency in general psychiatry at Temple University Hospital, where he served as one of the chief residents, and his fellowship in child and adolescent psychiatry at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital, both in Philadelphia. Dr. Salaam is a fellow of the American Psychiatric Association and a member of both the Black Psychiatrists of America and the Caucus of Black Psychiatrists of the American Psychiatric Association. He has special interests in academic achievement among children of color and the relationship between spirituality and mental health.
